I don't dislike the new car, but it looks closer to the old C-Class coupe than the E-Class, which I preferred in looks and features.

What platform is it based upon?
From the front it looks similar to the S class coupe that MB killed off claiming that there was no market for it.

Anyone else noticed the sheer amount of horrid plastic on the outside! amazing engineers can make space craft but, be damned if they can plonk a tablet neatly into a dash.

It makes sense though as i see no real difference between the current E and C coupes that I see daily, so an easy way to massively reduce production costs yet sell the same volume to the target market.

Bit on the bland side, not a huge fan of massive wheels and rubber-band tyres, but not an unattractive car. As per Horatio, it would be a much nicer design if pillarless. Looks like a design more for drag coefficients over aesthetics!

I will probably be too old to drive when these are cheap enough on s/hand market to be considered as a good buy

Plenty at that kind of price for sure, but would you want to spend much time in one that is like a burst couch?

My son paid 500 for his 07 220 CLK with full options and 180ks, he is 'new school' so sets his drivers seat down to the floor level. We can only see the top of his head through the side window :D

How on earth can he see where he’s going?
I’ve tried that position and can only see through the 1 inch gap between wheel and dash.
No wonder so many kids crash more often these days

I can't drive like that either, I need to be in control of the car, not the other way round.
I guess it is a thing of 'Coolness'
I would sit low and keep my hoodie on if I drove an ugly car :)

I bought my CLK200 on CollectingCars.com for £7k including buyers premium two years ago (May 2021) with 5900 miles on it.
Had it Dinitrol treated underneath- it was like brand new - and changed all fluids & tyres and got a spare set of wheels with winter tyres fitted.
It already had an updated touchscreen head unit with Bluetooth, satnav, DAB etc fitted by the previous owner so it is completely up to date technology-wise.
Folding rear seat backs allow it to swallow huge amount of tools and equipment through the boot and the pillarless side window openings - don’t ask me how I know this!
It is now sitting at 48k miles and hasn’t missed beat in that time - and I use every single one of these 160-something horses.
Indy services at 12k mile intervals and diy oil & filter change at 6k intervals.
It only gets around 33mpg, but it is certainly worth more than £500 to me
