I have a c200 kompressor, and today on my way up north, the engine warning light came on. I rang the emergency breakdown number and they told me go to the nearest dealer. I was under the impression that they would come to me and rectify the fualt if possible, or at least get a replacement car, since a had my family with and young childrenwith me.

I eventually got it to a dealer at 20mph, and they were no help, apart from leave the car and get a taxi home at my expense. They eventually found a fault with the injectors. Am I being over optimistic with MB breakdown, or do they normally leave you stranded with your family in their cars?

Hi Boncracker
I have never heard such an horrif'ic breakdown story before!!, if I was you I would be sending the MD of the breakdown Co a very strong letter claiming not only a full appology but also full compensation fo your costs & inconvenience. I would also be looking at changing my breakdown cover arrangements. I personaly belong to "Brittania Rescue" & have for the last XXXXyrs since they first started (as part of C S M A )members facilities. Never a problem.
Out of interest what "brekdown co" do you belong to???

Mobilio ?

Hi,
In the 7 years I have owned Mercs I have been lucky enough to never need the breakdown cover, but I understood that the Mobilio cover would get you an immediate loan car at the very least. This cover is supposed to last 30 years if its Merc dealer maintained. I am guessing that a C200 comp is going to be pretty new and dealer maintained so I would take this up with Merc.
Anyone else had any experience with Mobilio - I don't have any other cover on my 4 year old E240 as I thought this would suffice. Also its one of the reasons I continue to pay rediculous dealer service prices, though as the corrosion waranty requires the same and I've just had a lot of paintwork I guess it was worth it this year.
Conincidentally I had a c200comp loan car. Very impressed, a lot more fun than my E.

According to Mobilo Life you are supposed to get a replacement car.

I had a breakdown in February, total brake failure due to the same cause as a total brake failure the previous August. The August breakdown was repaired and carried a two year Pan European warranty, stamped my a MB Main dealer.

MB refused to cover the cost of the repair, failed to supply a replacement car and proceeded to bill for repairing the brakes. They left me to fend for myself.

Their in house warranty man at MB actually told me he is 'unable to telephone the dealer'. Obviously the poor cretins are tied to their office chairs and not allowed use a telephone for fear of being shot.

Eventually afer much litigious correpondence in which I refused to back off and insisted I would put all this on the internet the same individual, by some miracle unknown to me actually wrote me a cheque. However he was unable to write any apology, presumably that could lead to heart failure. Then again perhaps its an execution offence inside MB.

Thanks for all your support.

I got the car back, and would you believe it, it broke down again 5 days later. This time I insisted that they sort this out. They sent a technician over and as I said that Brentford Mercedes had fixed it, he just sighed and said "not again". He told me that all they probably dis was just clear the fault and sent me on my way. Any way he got to Uxbridge MB and they gave me car for a week. They re-calibrated the engine. Seems to be ok now, but I am definetly going to send a letter to the MD.

Thanks again

One thing that I was never certain of with MB 30 year cover is, say if you have two punctures (unfortunate I know, but it could happen), or did something silly like run out of petrol  would MB cover come out to you - I know Green Flag do (not personal experience I may add).

A couple of years ago I had a puncture on Leicester Forest Service Station on the M1.
As I had a large and rather heavy crate in the boot...something I could not lift out singlehanded...I rang the emergency number..
Within ½ an hour a RAC man turned up.. He helped me lift out the crate so as to get to the spare wheel then changed the wheel for me...
We then put the crate back in the car and he then escorted me to a local tyre dealer to have the punctured tyre repaired.
The only cost to me was £8.00 for the puncture repair and about 1½ hours lost time.

Excellent service from both MB and the RAC I thought.

Hi,
couple of experiences with Breakdown cover.....

A few years ago my wife put 60 litres of diesel into a 6 cylinder petrol OPEL Commodore of mine and then drove 3 miles before it stopped !

Green flag came out within 45 minutes and towed the car to a garage where they pumped out the diesel and got her going again.

I have had AA cover on my C Class for 2 years now and never needed to use it !

I have just insured my 16 year old 300 CE with the Classic Insurance reccomended by the club and that has included breakdown cover, windscreen etc all for just over £300 !
