Have always been a big fan of the E Class and i really like this new front. The back however will need to be seen in the metal for me to be decided.

Cant wait to see my first one. I like the idea of an E Coupe. Potential next car territory for me there i think.

There's always been an E-Class Coupe, the CLK. CLK has always been based on the E-Class and the CE's before the CLK came out.

The CLK is based on the C-Class. I know that one CLK looked like the W210, but I believe this was also based on the C-Class.

Certainly mine isn't. The current CLK which I have(W209 facelift) is based on an E-Class, the interior/dash etc is almost exactly that of an E-Class (W211 facelift).

The C-Class coupe is based on the C-Class and the new CLC is based on the current C-Class. Why would they make 2 different coupe versions based on the C-Class i.e. C-Class Coupe and CLK?

I believe the CLK has always been based on an E-Class from when it came out and previous to that the CE's were the coupe's of the W123's and W124's. Just as the CLK is the coupe versions of the W210 and W211. The looks, price, engine range, interior and feel of the car has always been closely matched to that of an E-Class.

Why do you think Mercedes are replacing the "CLK" with the "E-Class Coupe"? Why is it well documented everywhere that the new CLK will be called the E-Class Coupe as a form of Marketing Strategy? Because that is exactly what the CLK is....... an E-Class Coupe, perfect fit hey!! Mercedes kills 2 birds with one stone.

As someone who worked for MB I can tell you that the CLK is based on the C-Class and not the E-Class.

The 208-series was 202-series C-Class underneath.
The 209-series is 203-series C-Class underneath.

As I understand it, the clk is on the c class platform but the interior and suspension are to E class standards. I drove the latest C class saloon late last year (both sport and elegance versions) and found both the interior and suspension inferior to my current ride.

My dad has a 2006 W203 facelift C200 Avantgarde, I've driven it many times and in no way can I say anything from it is in any way similar to my CLK. I agree with PeterCLK that it feels inferior, the doors are much lighter on the C-Class and don't have that same sound when they close, the touch of the controls is not as nice, the dash display, steering wheel, central console, inner door handles, seats, even the feel of the materials used to make the dash etc feels different.

Everything on the C-Class is different. And as far as the ride, smoothness, quietness when driving, the C-Class doesn't even come close. Sorry C-Class owners no offence meant in anyway, just saying how different the CLK feels from the C-Class and my difficulty in believing the CLK is a C-Class underneath... I've also driven my uncle's 2007 E320 CDI Sport and that car I can say feels very much like mine, my car just feels like a coupe version of that.

I'm really happy with it at the moment and will be looking at the new CLK (E-Class Coupe) when it comes out as a next car or even the new SL :D

The exterior looks nice, but no nicer than the current one and given the limited view from the photos the interior looks like a backwards step IMO. The interior has a slight BM look rather than an MB one and what's that plastic crap on the dash of the avantgarde??? What is this, An Audi? Where's the piano black wood??? They seem to be doing to the E what they did with the C. The interior of the 202 was a vastly nicer place to be than the 203 (one of the major driving factors of me not buying a 203 and getting a 210 instead) and the 204 is nicer looking but still not what I'd call a proper merc interior. I was hoping they'd control themselves on the E and keep closer to the escence of the E class rather than chase Audi and BM into the hard sports saloon arena.
I'll have to wait to see what it looks like in the flesh and no doubt it will grow on me but I haven't fallen in love like I did with the sneak pics of the 211.

As DC insider,,99% of the info that I give out, the C and CLK share most of the same faults and components

Thankfully, unlike the current C class, they've avoided putting that cheap looking / feeling flappy thing in the centre of the dashboard. What's it for? Looks like it belongs in and 1980's Peugeot.
I too think the interior looks a bit BMWish which I think is a bit of a shame as the E class interior of old always looked classy to be (in either wood or ally versions).

The CLK was indeed based on the C Class platform, although with a longer wheelbase.
MB trimmed the car to virtually E Class level in order to fulfill the requirement for an E Class coupe.
Of course, the result is a good compromise...... and my favourite :D

Yes the Clk is based on the C class platform, it shares many parts including dashboard and some interior fittings, the reason why the doors have a more solid clunky feel to them is because they are longer and therefore heavier.
The current C class coupe is little more than a marketing expression as it is actually a C class hatchback if you look at it in reality.
I wonder going forward will the E class saloon and coupe be similary priced as we now have with the Clk and E class.
Regarding the New E class i think the stlying will have the usual lovers and haters but i remember when the 210 came out and people where calling it the frog eyed car for a long time until it became more familiar to us.
I think the stlying is very nice myself and i cant wait till we get our demo model in cause i know it will be as much of a leap forward that we have seen prevoiusly between the 210 and 211 model. But its a same we will have to wait so long for the AMG models to follow suit but hopefully the wait will be wotrth it.

oooooooooookay, didnt mean to start a CLK riot here.

My comment refers to....THe current CLK looks like a CLk not an E or C Class (In my opinion!!) I am excited as i imagine an E-CLass Coupe looking like the E Class but with only the front doors and a slightly more slanty roof at the back. I may be miles out with that thought.
