Through my own stupidity, I managed to break the Anti Roll Bar mount on the front of my C240.

I had it replaced, but now this one's broken too, and just by normal driving  (I broke the first one by trying to jack the car up on it - it was dark and it looked OK! )

Is this a common problem? I mean them breaking, not my stupidity - I know that's a problem!!

No, this is not a common problem, if it is broken at one end there is a chance that when you jacked the car on it, that the end fixing got out of line, or bent, Could also be one of the front holding bushes out of line. Did you fit the new one yourself ?

I didn't fit the replacement - but I will be fitting the next, along with new bushes.

It's actually snapped just above the higher of the two bolts that hold the ARB to it.

I suppose it's possible that the one that was fitted was a cheap pattern part, or like you say, maybe it wasn't lined up properly or something. A proper MB replacement from a dealer is about £6.50, so it's not the end of the world. I just wondered if I needed to buy a spare.

I'll post a picture of the broken one when I've taken it off.

I think a good idea is, when you have the engine undertray down, ensure it is not fixed at the rear hard up against the crossmember. If so, fit 10 or 12mm spacers on each fixing to eliminate this. Helps protect the crossmember from corrosion as it doesn't then continually sit in a puddle of water in inclement weather, and allows airflow.

Well, I've just fitted the new bracket...

And it's no chuffin' wonder the old one broke - look at the difference in quality! The one I bought is a genuine MB one, at a cost of just over £6. The snapped one is 3 months old...

I didn't get chance to lower the undersheild Tom, but that's a good idea and when I change the ATF, I'll make a point of doing it :)
