does anyone have a solution to fix the odometer in my 1981 300-D Auto? The odometer will only RARELY spin @ higher speeds for a little while (if it feels like it). Solutions? Suggestions?
I had a similar problem on my 1979 Peugeot 504, the mechanical cable had a square pin that fitted into the back of the odometer, however, the square coupling pin had worn smooth, such that even though the pin rotated, it didn't engage in the back of the odometer. I got the problem fixed by getting a new cable from the auto gearbox to the dash instrument cluster.
I know the cars are totally different but I guess you could be suffereing a similar problem.

this is what someone advised me (if it will help someoen else)
There is a speedo cable, but no separate one for the odometer.
"If the odometer quit, but the speedometer is working, the problem is that
the little gear on the shaft is loose and is turning on the shaft, not
turning the shaft or other gears as it should. It is a normal DIYer type
repair.
