Hi Guys,
I attempted a DIY change of my front brake discs and pads (needed to save money!) and in the process, I broke a wheel nut on one side and the disc retaining screw on the other. My question is what is the best way forward? Do I get the broken bits drilled out or do I replace the wheel hubs?
Also, does anyone know of a good Indy garage in the south east of London? The local stealers are rude and I would really like an alternative.
Thanks in advance.

Bad luck agadza.

Both can be drilled out, but its a job that needs care. one must start off with a very small drill and work up. this gives you a chance to keep the hole that you are drilling out in the center. You must not drill larger than the tapping size of the broken bolt / stud , so when drilling the wheel bolt out,if it is a 12mm bolt, a 10mm drill is the max that you can use.

With the screw that holds the disc on, this is not important, and if you have to a new hole could be drilled elsewhere into the hub and the face of the broken screw grounf off

You do not need a MB garage for this and any ordinary garage is used to doing this type of work.

you can ignore the disc retaining screw if you want, its only really there to keep the disc still and make it easier to get the wheels back on, having said that if you have to have the bolt drilled out then i guess you might as well have the screw done too.

Many thanks, guys. Actually, reason why I was looking for the garage was because I need a diagnostic to find out which of my rpm sensors is playing up ( I was advised to do this in an earlier thread) and I suspect they will have to remove the wheels to get at these, so figured might as well get all this done at a go. Cheers.

How did the wheel nut break? (or is it a stud?)

I would be concerned about the strength of the other wheel fasteners.

ET Numbers on Rims - will these fit ok ?

Hi all, I have an SL320 R129 and considering changing the original 8 hole style, can anyone tell me what 'ET' number the original 8 hole rims are that I have (I know it's all to do with offsets), I have seen a nice set of Mercedes rims from a 2003 SL300, they are ET35's -would they fit ok would the offset be compatable ????? + would ET37's be compatable ???

Thanks
Dale ;)

Thanks Malcolm, I assume you must be talking about the head not the thread, am I right ?

........ with regard to the speaker query thanks a lot for the info, just to go back to my speaker questions again, do you know what the diameter of each speaker is in the doors and what is their power rating - watts.

Dale.

Dale I have answered that on another post somewhere to night.

On a 1996-7 car on the grill comes off and its held on with one screw under the bottom of the door.

They are a silly 1-2 ohm impedance and I believe 8" take off the grill and check

Sorry about that, Dale should not have come on into the middle of it.

You have Steve Redfearn 0208 540 2311 in Wimbledon, but as I said before this is not a MB specialist job, any ordinary garage could do this

Good morning Malcolm, why do you say 'silly' 1-2 ohm speakers, are you suggesting, that given the opportunity, that anything new should be different. I'm assuming that whatever impendence the originals are is correct for the head unit supplied which is the Audio 10, or was it just a term you used because the impedence is small and was not meant to be taken that way at all.

Dale.

Dale please remove the last post of yours as its in the middle of a brake fault post, just copy what you have said and put this up into a new thread in electric, you will get a better response there

Loudspeakers come under electrics, please post there with your question and it will get answered, If you read post 10 here, the OP has said that he is in danger of getting replies to his brake fault

Thanks Dale
