Bumper damage

My 220CDI 204 (2007) has had a dent in the rear bumper just behind the rear drivers side door. My question is; can this dent be knocked out or am I into a new bumper. I ask as it appears to me that the bumper is a plastic type material rather than metal, is that correct? Many thanks in anticipation of an answer

The bumper is plastic so it can't be knocked out like metal. If it will pop then you can do it yourself...otherwise a filler job I'm afraid. Post a photo for a better answer.

It will be plastic, but with some heat and some playing around you will be able to repair it.
Post a picture and we will be able to see if its repairable without paint!

The big problem is getting behind to push it out by using a bit of heat, you may have to release some fixing bolts to get there,,, They are a special ABS and no guarantee that it will push out, a picture would be great

Many thanks guys for all your comments, you have conformed my thoughts that it is indeed plastic. As I'm abroad at the moment I'm afraid a visit to the bodywork shop is on the cards as I don't have the facilities to deal with it myself. Once again thanks.

Depending on the extent of the damage, gentle patient application of heat plus pressure from behind may remove the damage - I came very close to achieving it when the rear bumper of our Astra estate suffered the same some years ago.
