The corners of the bumpers on my W124 saloon are scraped. I understand the rubber strips can be replaced at circa £80 at time but alternatively also understand that the rubber strips can sometimes be sanded down and then resprayed in-situ.
Has anyone ever heard of this or done it themselves?

Sounds good to me.. I'm an engineer and work with all sorts of materials so hard rubber should'nt be a problem to emery down.
At best you're looking at a new set of rubbers, so you've nothing to lose by trying.
I would'nt go too coarse to start as you'll be taking a lot off to get it smooth again ! Time and patience pays dividens ;)
