Hello

A few years ago with a good exchange rate there were some good deals, I've bought a few cars from Europe and saved a fortune. You have to be aware the warranty is 2 years rather than 3 athough you can buy the 3rd and the car has to be full UK RHD spec before you start adding options.

Anyway there is little or no saving now so thats out of the question.

Try the internet, car supermarkets, drive the deal?, places like that and play one off against the other.

Are the quotes £37k to £44K for the same car / spec as that a huge difference already. Is it a E320Cdi or petrol?

cheers

When people say fully loaded in my experience they very rarely mean that. If you add up all the extras for an E class they come to over £30,000 before you buy the car itself. And that is before you go into the Designo toy cupboard.

The useful extras IMO are COMAND, phone, leather, memory seats, parktronic, 6cd autochanger, and Airmatic suspension (because without that the 'sport' suspension -especially with big wheels- is pretty horrid).

A very, very fully specced E class 320cdi sport has a list price inc extras of over £65,000. Far better to buy an S class where far more is standard.

So we need to know what extras you really want in order to give a reasonable shot at a price.

BUT DrivetheDeal.com will give you about £7,000 off a nicely specced E320cdi sport. And there will be a dealer somewhere who will match that, or get very close.

If you want a better ride for less money ask for a demo in the Elegance and to talk yourself out of 'sport' read JC in the link below: -

Whilst it is very nice to have a new car I bought my 3 month old E320CDI for £16.5K less than list, I wouldn't be happy losing 16.5K in the first 3 months of ownership.

You mean, say, £22k for a listed car at £38,500? Really? Where on earth from? 3 months old.

Yes. I posted a link to them earlier. They are just a middleman but useful. The car you choose will be supplied by a main Mercedes dealer and all your paperwork will be done by them. And you will pay them, not Drive the Deal. So it is safe. All DTD do is pass your order to a dealer who has agreed to supply you at the price shown.

Was this a pre facelift car sold at the time when facelifts were in stock? Must have been some very special factor to get such a price?

No, a face lift 320CDI with all the toys I wanted. Full list with toys was £47K, whilst I know I could have got a better deal than that on a new one paying £30.5K was much more reasonable than paying mid to high 30's. It was up for £36K at MB Direct initially.
MB Direct do have lots of 3 month old cars as these are all provided to employees/managers at Milton Keynes etc. I know a manager with Bentley who gets a new Audi every 3 months for the same reason, it keeps the factory busy and provides a regular supply of nearly new cars.

Those kinds of places generally won't play the game of being played off against each other. They work to a fixed margin and don't have salesmen who are willing to bite into their commission to get their numbers up. It's partly not having salesmen on commission that lets them be so cheap, after all.

I had a colleague who bought an Audi through DriveTheDeal and it seemed to be a good experience, he recommended them to me but I haven't used them myself.
