Having had my sprinter written off i am looking at getting a vito to replace it. a 110 or 112CDI, i have done a search about them and have found loads of threads complaining of leaking injectors and stuff and couldn't really find a pattern, did this only happen on certain years or at x amount of miles or is it totally random? is there a quick (cheap) fix for the problem now? apart from the injector thing are there any other common issues with them?
How do any of you rate Transporters (T4, 2.5tdi) against them? i'd rather have a merc but want the better van really, speed and fuel consumption are the most important factors for me, and reliability obviously!

Thanks, Bill

Rusty Vitos!

In my travels, I have seen some very rusty Vitos around, even as new as 55 plates. By comparison, the VWs seems to stand up much better to the treatment given to them by the White Van Men and they seem to stay rust-free longer.

Only an observation and I have no direct experience, but doubtless somebody will be along sometime soon to tell you that I'm talking rubbish! Mechanically, the usual Merc problems will no doubt apply.

Hope this helps.

in this market? Anyway i read the thread, seems like the guy bought a T5 transporter, i am talking T4 Transporters and 110 and 112CDI's as opposed to the 109 111's etc, or are the T4's still better? i much prefer the styling of the merc's, its just this injector problem that worries me is there a propper fix/prevention for it?

'In this market'. he was after a people carrier and as the caravelle was similar size he went for that. The Vito has like all deisel merc's injector leaking, just on them to get acess is a pain and in this market I feel the VW is a better buy £ for £.

It's basically a C220 cdi engine, with the same associated faults, ie injectors leaking, but the access to them aint great. The engine is transverse and lies back slightly.
