Well, my girlfriend bought an E220 Coupe last summer and it's been great, however there are a few things to be wary of.
Make sure the door windows go up and down all the way. The driver's door window on ours was stopping about an eighth of a inch from top and making a clunking noise. Found out that it was the window regulator at fault and they could be picked up on ebay, or at a breakers for about £25. Got seller to knock a bit of price.
Well, that might be okay for saloon or estate but coupe has different part and it's not suce a simple bolt in job. Requires riveting. Part new from dealer is about £100.
Apart from that and a dodgy fuel pump relay, it's been a great car, and a lot of car for the money. New catalytic converter needed now, but on a 300CE you should be spared that I think.
They all leak a bit of Oil near the front of the head. Dont worry too much its prob the Rocker Gasket. Could be the head gasket. £800 job. I bought mine last year with 121,000 on the clock and its been perfect. now at 131k, and pulls hard.
I paid £2500 for it from a retired dentist who had treasured it and its shows. everything works and everything is in vgc.
I saw a really nice one owner one on ebay for £3k with 75k miles and dark blue, looked really nice. on a "g" plate. There are a lot of bargains around, it its free get excited if its a "bargain" - its not a major hard on.
Powerful and reasonably quiet, I'm looking for nice SL now, but would recommend the CE without question though.
Its an 'E' plate CE 300 with 18" MB OE alloys and new tyres, 12 months MOT and tax and the interior is unmarked with all the toys that I checked working...
Its my 1st MB so Im trying to poke and prod around as much as I can before purchasing it..
The only faults I could see is some slight odd discolouration on a very small part of the front wing where it looks like at some point its had an argument with a wall and got a scratch which has been badly repaired...
The guy is asking for a quick sale at £600...
I did have a nice drive round the local area and its lovely but Ive always had manual cars and the autobox (lazydrive I call it lol) will be a change...
craig... sorry about this, but buying a 17 year old at £600 sounds dangerous to me... might look cool & shiny...... think about engine, autobox, suspension.
