Hi, I have just been to view a '92 300D estate and would welcome some views on this.

It seems an honest car and has done 147K miles. It has 7 seats, alloy wheels (13 hole), electric windows, elec sunroof, all of which seem to work. It also has air con but this does not work (it is an early R12 system). The history is good from 3 years old when it was bought from mercedes with about 58K miles and has a full service history and old MOTs to back up the mileage with a regular use pattern over the last 13 years. It also has had the ''same'' owner over this time although it was transferred from company to private ownership during this time.

Condition is not too bad but it has some rust bubbles on both wings in the normal place and also a small patch of bad corrosion around the arial on the rear wing. It has just has an MOT although it needs one new headlamp lens and also the rear exhaust box will need replacing soon. It drives smoothly and quitely although the kick-down linkage is currently broken (so even slower than normal!!) although it changes manually with no problem.

The car was advertised for £2490 and the chap was willing to accept £2000. At the time I thought this was OK but have been having 2nd thoughts whilst driving home. In terms of general condition I know I could get a similar 230TE or 220 for £1200-1500.

I quite like the idea of the diesel in terms of its simplicity and also the potential to run on veg oil, but I guess it's not essential as I will only be doing 5-6000 miles a year.

I know the latter multi-valve diesels command a big price premium but not sure about the earlier ones?

So, the question is if £2000 is still too much to pay for this or is Ok for diesel with good service history?

Would welcome some second opinions on this.

Thanks,

Dave

That seems about right but you can only really price in relation to other, similar cars

If the car drives well, has history and has been used regularly then I would think you'll be very happy with it. A couple of hundred either way makes no difference in the end - it just a few tanks of diesel, after all - so the main thing is whether you like the car

If you do, I think you've done well
