J400uk, how did you search Autotrader for the A Class? I was on the site yesterday and there was no option for the A Class at all.
It's there you just need to scroll down to select it.

Listen to Alex and Derek. Good 190's are about and are terrific cars. A Class was/is a disaster

Thanks,,that was the post. Most owners of these fine cars never part with them, and most keep like new,it is a smaller Benz with a good quality build

I recall you saying in a post to one of our female members (could have been 100% Bitch?) that a good 202 or similar might be cost effective as a daily commuter, and I think either of these would also fit the bill, especially for what you can get with change from £1k.

The silver one has now sold but the red one is still available, it has just been serviced, got 1yrs MOT and looks in great condition inside and out with every MOT certificate present and 11 yrs FMBSH. (BTW I have absolutely nothing to do with this sale, I'm just commenting on how splendid a vehicle it would be for someone).

I'm sure 6K would buy a very nice C Class , which would be a better car than an A .

No it wouldnt.

All you would get is a tatty high mileage W203, which would be less reliable, not built as well and less roomy inside than the A-Class.

Just typed in A150 and sort by price low to high, which limits it down quite nicely to the cheapest new models.

I really don't think my views on the A class can be described as such. There can't be many MB Execs who wouldn't admit privately that they wish they had never gone done that particular path.

So you think they wish they didn't make the A-Class at all, even though they have sold well over 2-million examples so far?

MB Press Release said:
Mercedes-Benz has sold a total of more than 2.35 million units of the two model series. On the market since 1997, the A-Class is now in its second generation which was launched in 2004. The B-Class has been in production since 2005. Both models are particularly popular in Germany, their largest market. In May alone, 5300 customers in Germany chose an A-Class (corresponding figure for last year: 3400); this represents an increase of 54 percent. B-Class sales were up by 27 percent with 3900 units delivered (last year: 3000). At 18,900 vehicles (last year: 19,000), worldwide sales in the A- and B-Class segment in May were at the same level as last year. After Germany, the biggest markets for the A- and B-Class are Italy, France and Great Britain. The largest market outside Europe is Japan.

Do you actually know how business works?

I clearly know more about civility than you do....

190's were good back in the day, but an A-Class is a modern car that will out perform a 190 in almost all aspects.

I guess that depends on how one defines performance, most of the A Classes I see are in bits, personally I don't like them, one of the few MB's I can say that about. I did seriously consider one when they first came out, ruled it out pretty quickly and have not changed my view since.

I'll stick to Bruno specials!!

A-Class autos and semi-autos are a problem waiting to happen, but the manual ones are nice cars.

Bags of space, surprisingly nippy, economical and cheap to look after.

However like most newer cars, when something big goes wrong it can be difficult and costly to repair, but no more so than a Vauxhall or a Ford etc.

Well you asked and you got honest opinions.
Seem to be some pretty specific posts here.
What more do you want?

I asked and got honest opinions-what I wanted was buying advice!
The first poster was specific about problems he faced the others only commented that I shouldnt even look at one or described the later type......
Clearer now ?
(Oh, and I should add that answers since your comment have been much more what I have been looking for-thankyou all.)

I once owned a 190E and currently own the latest A Class (diesel). The 190E was of course more traditional Mercedes but hopelesly small inside. I am over 6ft and with the driver's seat in the right position for me there was no room at all behind. The A Class has loads of space, is solidly built, and I have had 11K trouble free miles. For £6K as other posters have shown you could get the latest shape A Class in very good condition. If you want to spend your £6K on a "small" Mercedes then the A Class is the way to go.

ps Don't buy the original A Class - disaster.
