Hello there, im buying an E55 AMG on Saturday, it has 95k, full Merc service history, just wondered if anyone can give me a rough ball park figure on what it will cost me to service per year if i stick to Mercedes?

ps, how much is the average set of tyres for this?

All feedback is greatly appreciated, even the sarcastic **** taking kind.

My son bought one.

Only one word described the experience (servicing) HORRENDOUS

As for the driving experience WOWWWWWWWWWEEEEEEE :D:D:D

In conclusion - you pay for what you get. Your call.

Enjoy it - lucky so and so...

Buying a 1998 E55

Depends on what needs doing. Standard service isn't much different from any W210 except for the amount of engine oil needed. But when you get into plugs (16 about £6 each), filters (air, fuel), discs & pads (about £700 genuine parts for all corners), tyres (about £250/pair fronts & £300/pair rears) and labour at above £100/hour and VAT on everything you can get something of a surprise. Fixing leaking fluid from the self levelling suspension can be costly.

I get everything done at an indie except the stamped services. If you have rust worries you might want the Mobilio corrosion cover that regular dealer stamps afford. Otherwise, go all indie and with the right outfit you won't go wrong. It's a ten year old after all and if you get the right one you will save on labour costs and get discounts on genuine MB parts.

Btw check if the autobox has had a fluid change in the past 50K/4 years, If not, DO IT NOW.

As for new cats don't ask. But I'm told the engines are that good you can pass the MoT without any provided you don't spill the beans to the test station.

Get original bills and reassurance that the 4year/50K big services have been done according to the book - ie at least twice in its ten years.

Check all the electrics - including windows - and gadgets work correctly. And run the aircon cold to see if the refrigerator works. If it needs charging see it's done before you buy to know if the seals have gone - expensive.
