One of the rear door speakers in my C240 (new shape) has developed a low buzz. I,ve done a search on the forum to see 1, has anyone else had a similar problem and 2, how do you get at it to replace it? but apart from someone who suggested there was a philips screw at the bottom of the speaker to release the cover (which there isn,t) I drew a blank. Anybody help?

Has anyone removed the "door card" and can give a description of where to start?

Its not very difficult but you may need to remove some other items first, door handles, armrest etc as they are screwed through the card to the metal of the door. I think the car itself is held on with plastic poppers around the edges. I have not taken off a Merc one but every other car has been like that. The plastic poppers break easily enough so you need to be gentle. If you can get one a Haynes manual is a great buy and a great aid too. There should be a plastic shield inside the door to prevent water running into the speaker etc, important to make sure that goes back properly, it keeps out water and also controls road/wind noise. If you are a hi fi lover you should change the two speakers.........

Many thanks for the reply,I guessed that it would be necessary to remove the armrests etc but I can,t see how they are secured. I did try to get a Haynes manual in Halfords but according to the Haynes directory a 2000 and onwards C240 petrol is not available yet. Can this be correct?

door pad

Hi

to remove 203 rear door pad:-
remove plastic pad near lock on door (one screw)
prize off grab handle cover( insert screw driver at bottom and lever)
undo the screws exposed
prize of door pad at front ,bottom and lower then lift the whole panel upwards out of rubber channel (very tight)

If there is an SRS badge at back left corner there may be a screw behind that as well
