Hi All,

I need your heeeelpppp, i've got a C 280 1995 and i was driving today when all of a sudden it turned itself off. I tried a number of times to restart it, it turns but will not work. I had a mechanic check it and he can't figure it out either, the fuel pump is pumping for sure, spark plugs seem to be sparking cause i can hear the sparks while starting. Any ideas??? please email me on omar_ziada@yahoo.com

Thanks a million...

Get it checked properly for spark at main king HT lead and also at a plug. If it is sparking at both places it must be fuel related. If no fuel - fuel pump, relay, empty tank etc. If it has fuel system working, something on the electronic side possibly faulty. If both fuel and spark are present then major probs possibly. But, these are rough guess pointers to help. Probably something simple wrong.

Best to call out AA or recovery if your a member of one and get them to check for spark and fuel first.

Hi
If you can HEAR the sparking whilst trying to start it check the Dist cap for cracks or shorts You should not be able to hear the spark from the plugs in the cyl.

I would get a MB specialist to check it if there is one in your area. It is strange that you "hear" the sparkplugs, I have never heard sparkplugs. The timing chain could have snapped that would be the kind of major problem but probably not. Pay a MB specialist or a MB dealer if you can afford it.

Please do as I suggested earlier first though. Call out AA if you are a member.

Hi Guys,

I got a call from the mechanic today who said that through the diagnostic check the problem seems to be the electric coil which is around 65 pounds. i think the diagnostic test is around 60 and another 40 or 50 to replace the coil but thats seems to be it. i'll be going down tomorrow to check it and hopefully drive it back home with no future problems...

Well done. You couldn't "hear the sparks after all then".;) Happy motoring.
