I?ve got an April 2000 Cdi220 C Class (202) which has several small spidery patches (the only description I can think of) centralised around tiny rust spots on the bonnet\roof\wings ? I?ve also recently noticed rust appearing on the inner lips of the wheel arches.
The car hasn?t been serviced since I bough the car in June last year (although it is due one quite soon) - the last official Mercedes service was in November 2001, with the last service being done by a non Mercedes dealer in October 2003 (before I owned the car) ? my question is do you think I?ve got any chance of having any of this covered by mobilo? ? I?m amazed about the rust on the inner wheel arches on a car only 5 years old ? I had a 1995 Fiat Punto that I only got rid of last year that had no signs of rust.

Cheers

Mobilo are quite specific about service records for the car. I dont have mine with me at the moment but I think there is a two year limit on it. It's important when buying a Merc to read the bookwork on this one as it seems very easy to fallout of the loop. Having said that the cost of the services necessary to achieve the cover can be astronomical and its my guess that going independent and then getting these rust repairs done might just be a cheaper route.

Mobilo Life

Hi GlenH

If you do a search on Mobio Life you will find other threads which discuss this service in more detail. I started one such thread myself.

I have a 2000 model MB and I have a couple sets of spider patches on my car which are barely noticeable at the moment but will undoubtedly develop into visible rust patches.

I contacted my local MB dealer to discuss the rust issue and was informed I had lost my Mobilo Life cover because the dealer from whom I bought the car had taken my car to a non-MB garage to have a pre-delivery service. This happened before I bought the car. The dealer wanted it to be in A1 condition before I took ownership.

However, this act 'seems' to have lost me my Mobilo Life according to the MB dealer because I have a different (non-MB) stamp in my Log Book.

HOWEVER, I paid the MB dealer another visit last Saturday and I spoke to another service manager and he thought my service history was intact because I only had new disc pads fitted by the non-franchised garage. They didn't do a full service.

I asked the MB dealer to check how many miles I had to go before my next scheduled service and this was in 8,700 miles time, which will be early next year. What the first service manager told me was that I had to have my car serviced once a year by a MB dealer to retain my Mobilo Life cover. I now begin to suspect that the first service manager may have tried to mislead me. Sour grapes? Maybe he objected to the car being taken to another garage for disc pads. Who knows.

I am pursuing the rust issue with the MB dealer and I have been informed the decision to repair falls to MB in Germany, a process that can take months, such is the number of claims that MB are having to deal with.

Look up E-class in this Forum as they seem to suffer rust more that most models. The older MBs tend to be rust free.

REGARDS Phil
