Hi,

I recently purchased a 2003 C270 CDi Classic SE Auto (W203 model) from a private seller however the service manual and handbooks were missing as this was previously a company owned vehicle.

Would anyone know approximately how much I would be looking at to replace these? I realise I will have to start my service manual from scratch (currently at 28k miles).

My next service will equate to about 36k miles, does anyone know off hand mercedes servicing costs (from a main dealer)?

Kind Regards,
John

Hi John and welcome, you can buy the book from any MB dealer, around £16 if you have Command you will want that one too, that cost £18.

Someone else should answer on the service cost

Hi Malcolm,

Thank you for your reply. I have looked on Ebay and they are charging well over £16 for the C class manuals.

I am under the impression servicing will be approximately £500 + any extra parts/labour required. However hopefully someone should be able to confirm :)

Unfortunately do not have command, audio10 cd at the moment... sound quality is very good through out the range though.

My first Mercedes and I am amazed by how smooth and relaxing a car the C270 is to drive :)

Kind Regards,
John

I'm always amazed that people will buy a car without checking the servicing costs!
See this thread for a servicing offer Inchcape group has at the moment:
http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=29542

I *think* a dealer should be able to bring the service book up to date, or you may have to send the book to wherever the car was serviced.

As well as basic A & B service, the car needs brake fluid every 2 yrs, coolant every 3 years and (probably) auto trans fluid every 4 yrs.

One thing you might want to think about is ServicePlus. As the car is out of warranty it will need an appraisal first, but Service Plus basically cover all service and repairs for cars up to 6 yrs old or 120K miles. Your local dealer should be able to give you details.

Don't bet on it! My dealer knew nothing about ServicePlus, had never seen a ServicePlus card before.
BTW ServicePlus also covers all wear items as well (Pads/discs etc and yes, wiper blades too!)

Mine (or at least the person I spoke to in the service dept) was very switched on and positive about the benfits of ServicePlus. Although he did insist that they needed to see the car before the contract could be taken out, which I gather isn't required if the car is still under warranty.

Hi,

Thank you for coming back to me Rory & Whitenemesis. You're right, I should have checked this before purchasing the vehicle.

However to be honest, the car is worth the time, effort and money. Granted, you can purchase a car with lower servicing costs, however I feel the driving experience you get back from a Mercedes is worth it.

My next service is due in 11k miles, nearer the time I will investiagte further into the servicing prices and whether it would be worth seeing an independent Mercedes specialist.

Thank you for providing information on the ServicePlus plan, this sounds a worth while avenue to go down. I understand this will be costly upfront, however will no doubt pay off in the longer term and would be taking up with my local Mercedes dealership.

Many Thanks,
John

Hi John, welcome

I purchased my C270 10 Months ago. The main dealer has just sent me details on service plus, why I do not know. Its about £65 per Month, the only problem is according to my dealer (thats if the girl on the phone knows her stuff) I am not eligable as I only cover 4-5K a year! it only covers you if you do more than 10K a year, personally I think she has got it wrong My service will be due in another year as my milage is so low, so £450 for a major service in 2 years is not bad.

If I were covering normal mileage, say 15K a year, then I would jump at it as it does cover parts including wear and tear, check first

I am over the moon with our car, the only thing I am slightly dissappointed with is the fuel consumption, admittedly my wife drives the car mostly, she gets 33MPG, but that is very little M/Way driving on a 12 mile round trip, I have driven the car on M/Way, the most I have reached was 47MPG, overall 42 on a 100Mile round trip keeping to 70MPH, maybe I was expecting too much!

Enjoy your drive, perhaps you could let me know what you get to the gallon

Regards

Bryan

Hey Bryan,

Thank you for the further information on the service plan. I only cover 7-8k a year so I may have to investigate further whether service plan can help me or not. But insight into the costs of servicing and the service plan are very much appreciated.

Admittedly I have only took delivery of the car two weeks ago, however I get around 35-38mpg on average. Given the size of the car and power behind it, I am happy with that figure.

Still to pick up a new set up manuals and service book for the car- however I will keep my eyes peeled on eBay in the meantime.

Many Thanks,
John

I was always lead to believe that any MB dealer could input the registration into the main database and pull up the service history and print it out for you.

Is that right or did I dream it?!!!

Mine is averaging an indicated 45.3mpg, but I have achieved more on sustained runs (albeit with "normal" driving and conditions).

Enjoy your car - I love mine!
