..reading several other members posts regarding the BAS/ESP failure occuring, and the general conclusion was brake switch fitted under the pedal.

For those of us who have Sequentronic, their is another strong possibility which only affects sequentronic models (apparently):

A fault in the brake wiring loom randomly throws up the failure message. It took a fair amount of time to come to this conclusion, Merc-Care (independent specialist in the deepest darkest North ... Leeds!) were perplexed. Eventually feedback pin-pointed the item and a new wiring loom was installed. Problem solved! If not done under warranty, your looking at 400+! (this was 1 year ago, Merc Cares rates have almost doubled since then)!

I posted recently on an intermittent problem with the Sequentronic transmission which seemed to clear up after stopping and restarting. I took it to an independent specialist who discovered three faults in the ABS/ESP which he thought may be related to the transmission problem. However he also found code P2081 in the transmission which points to failure of the hydraulic pump. I left the car with the mechanic for three days to drive about but unfortunately the fault did'nt reoccur. He has cleared the faults in any event and there has been no drama for the past two months.
I did have one relating to the Battery/alternator which again has'nt reappeared. I have to say that I am becoming paranoid looking at the on board display awaiting the next apparent malfunction.

Hi Sceptre,

Sounds like it could be the exact same problem, faulty wiring loom. Either the wires are bad, or the connectors. As its a family car, I never looked that closely at the work sheet. Unfortunately, Im not home until May, so I wont be able to dig out the info, but I suggest you contact Merc-Care in Leeds and ask what wiring loom was replaced on the C220CDI Sequentronic Saloon (they only ever had this one, but have had a couple of Coupe's) and refer this to your mechanic. It took Merc-Care quite some time to dig up the information.

Thanks, Psmart
This could be a big help.
My car though, did not show an ABS warning light on the dash prior to the Transmission failure although there were fault codes registered in the system for the ABS. Apparently, this fault which is intermittent is only occuring at the time that it happens and is logged but the system can rectify itself after a break and maybe not reoccur for some time, which is my experience. I am concerned though about the Hydraulic pump fault also logged but maybe this happens as a result of the ABS problem. I imported this car from England and the dealers here in Ireland have never seen this transmission which was'nt available here so I'm having to do my own research on the subject.
Regards

Hi Sceptre,

A good reference, if you use Windows XP/Pro or NT (4/2000) is to get a copy of the Mercedes WIS/EPC. This is a very valuable information library and could at the very least, instruct you on aspects of your car.

I got mine from Ebay, search 'Mercedes manual'.

Many of the faults, as per a posting from Rajinder_1, can be just random due to bad wiring loom/dirty connectors. The fact you've been getting multiple faults points to the wiring loom.

Just confirming what psmart is saying, that wiring faults that involve the CAN bus throw up random fault codes. Stop worrying about your gearbox pump, its almost unheard of.
