Hi

Great forum!

I need some help, I recently bought a used C Class K200 Y Reg Manual, 38K on the clock. I love the car!

However, there is a distinct thud and rattle almost everytime I depress the clutch to change from 1st to 2nd gear (and other gears but quieter)

The car is under Mercedes Used Car Warranty, however when I took the car back they said that its fine, and its just a "robust clutch which is quite harsh"

I know that this particular model has a poor manual gearbox (from the reviews) but surly this, thud and rattle when you depress the clutch cant be one of these famous Mercedes characteristics!

Can anyone shed any light?

Thanks

Mike

No way mate.....Take it back to them and get them to repair it....There should be no noise at all and when you press the clutch, it should be silent.....

A word of warning....when you get a noise from a Merc that 90% of other manufacturers would agree was a defect, the standard Merc dealers response is...."they all do that", "that's normal" or if they want to put you in your place "that's within design parameters" or something similar. Of course when the warranty is out they then mysteriously become very wise to the problem, at your great expense. You have to push it with them, and when you leave in your car for service leave a written list of things to be done. There is something seriously wrong with either gearbox or clutch. The only noise we ever accepted was a small amount from a clutch release bearing and that was only on motorcycles where changing it was a one hour diy job. As far as I recall that noise disappeared when you depressed the clutch pedal. If in doubt try a test drive in another one.
