reliability of the new C-class

Hi johnthebarber

During my research of the C-class I discovered many references to the extreme reliability of the new model. I would think the car you have in mind should be at least as good as the Lexus in terms of reliability. It all depends how well the vehicle was looked after by the previous owner and whether the services were performed as required.

However, if you read through this forum you will encounter criticisms of the M-B marque. Pre-95 cars seem to be better built.

Merc did go through a bad patch and they are only just starting to come out of it, but it's a long road so I doubt they are as reliable as the Lexus. The C doesn't seem to suffer from the woes of the E (98-2003 as far as I can tell), but there are likely to be a few gremlins still wandering about. All I would say is 1) get a print out of the service history from the dealer - what has been done aside from the servicing? Has it spent 3 months in the workshops in the last year etc and 2)Go for the most recent one you can.

I have been thinking about the C230k saloon as a poss replacement for my E240. I had a C200k for a few days whilst my standard issue E class corrosion was sorted, and found it a lot of fun, and whilst nothing like as refined or roomy as the V6 E, still very comfortable on a run. The 230k looks like a blast.
