As Andy suggested you need the latest Nav CD (e.g Tele Atlas) that supports TMC. I spoke with MB UK on the subject a few months ago and they do not support TMC yet , although they acknoledge that it might work.
The only isue I have found that you have to listen to Classic FM (or the CD) if you activate TMC on a journey, as this is the channel used to broadcast the TMC data.

Thank you for contacting the Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center.
We currently do not have the systems compatibility in the UK to use the RDS-TMC service in conjunction with our satellite navigations systems, and do not have a date when this system will be available
Should you have any further requirements, please do not hesitate to contact us at Customerservice.UK@mbcac.mercedes-benz.com

I have just received this disk and can not get anything to work. All i get is a message on the screen stating insert navi dvd. I have inserted the disk into the head unit on the dash as i do not have any other drive.
Any suggestions urgently welcome as i was planning a long trip this weekend.
Is this the original disc that came with your car?
If so, it should work, when inserted in the drive, as you mentioned.
Make sure that you cancel any navigation before inserting the disc.
TMC in the UK is still, unfortunately a long way off. There are only a couple of radio stations broadcasting the data and most car manufacturers do not yet wish to pay the royalties to the UK agencies so that they can provide TMC-enabled UK mapping. This is complicated by some of the same car manufacturers also offering the rival, and rather crude by comparison, Traffic Master system.
Some of the latest disc-sets are TMC enabled, but only for Italy, France and a few other countries, where the system works very well- But not the UK.
 I have spoken to Mercedes garage, and they are indicating that the c class has a different comand system to the other class cars. Doing a quick search on the internet, it appears that they could be correct and that the unit is a Harman Becker Unit. Can anyone confirm this, and if this is the case, why do tele atlas advertise the cd as being compatible with c class after '99?
To keep everyone updated, the Comand system in the new c-class have changed to the Becker Harman system. Tele atlas disks will therefore NOT work and a navteq disk is required. Does anyone know where i can obtain one with TMC enabled?
