There's a 'y' in the day so must be a problem with may car ...

Do we expect the back exhaust box on a 98 C250TD with 60K on theclock to drop off?
It's sheared off on the weld that joins the box and made a nice noise as I was about to join the M1.

Even though it's under Signature warranty this isn't covered apparently. Is there any point at all of contacting Mercedes directly as I think it should last longer than this?

I've tried a few exhaust centres and they can't even get it because it's so new.

I have a similar car with similar mileage. The exhaust system is original & still sound, however, corrosion has commenced at weld joints which is to be expected.
Should research around the forums suggest that the box failure is premature.it certainly is worth putting a case to Milton Keynes for financial assistance with the replacement. Present the facts in a logical manner & they might respond. Its worth bringing the matter to the attention of your normal MB dealer-Milton Keynes often refer back to them.

C-class BAck Box.

Not sure what year it applies to, but there was a recall on the W202 for a cracked weld happening to back-boxes. Maybe yours was missed in the recall?

There is a recall for the rear exhaust tailpipe corroding away allowing the the hot gases to burn the bumper and set it alight.

Used to work for an MB dealer and this has happened to a customer who's car was written off along with his caravan.

Call into your MB dealer and ask the to do an 'ESKULAB' (ess-ku-lab).

This is an electronic system with preset parameters for goodwill.

This will show if there is any problems and your chassis number comes into it.

If your vehicle has a full MB service history then ask the dealer if he is willing to contribute towards the repair from their 'Goodwill policy pot'.

This is money given to the dealers by MB for them to use as goodwill payments at the dealers discretion.
