Hi, I'm trying to find out some info on my recently purchased C class. It's very different to the normal C320 Avantgarde which is what it started out as. It is badged MaClaren, has a four pot exhaust, lowered suspension, tweaked engine and very special 18inch alloys. The man i bought it from informed me that Mercedes did all the work to the car to use as a show car in Germany. He also informed me that there were 2 or 3 others done at the same time. Any help you could give me finding out any more about this special car would be very much appreciated.

The official McClaren Mercedes website mentions nothing of this car.
I would suspect this may be a product of a well heeled enthusiast with McClaren contacts and is unofficially badged. I would like to to see documentation proving its heritage, and if forthcoming will offer profuse apologies.
BTW, it looks RHD to me. A RHD car from Germany?

Silly question

Wouldn't running the VIN number through the usual website tell a tale??

Maybe. Depends at what point in the cars history the mods were added.

If, as was stated, it was prepared for a Car Show - and only a handful were made - the information would be there from the onset, wouldn't it?

That appears to have been all verbal information provided by the seller of the car.
How many of us would take the word of a private seller as gospel?

However, I do honestly hope that it all turns out to be totally geniune and that it is the puka article - as he was told.
Personally I would want to see some fairly conclusive proof - especially if there is a premium on the value of the car because of the alleged McClaren link. As I suspect there may be.
Whatever its pedigree, it is a damn fine looking car and I wager its got good legs.

Totally agree, but surely the VIN check would answer the question - genuine or fake.?
