I have a 1997 C 180 Classic 5 speed auto and it has 2 clear problems. First, it starts like usual, but one second after firing, it gulps/hesitates and will continue running if I step on the accelerator. Sometimes, this is not necessary. When it gulps, you can feel the body surging like its trying to keep firing. Then the error code 11 comes up for a few seconds with a spannar display. The other issue is the auto seems to be having a queer whining sound now. I did have the fluid conpletely changed with Benz stuff as well as the flat steel filter housing, the sump gasket and the red plastic cap lock. Didn't make things any better. Thought it would. Please help before I go and see the techie or stealer and get a bootful of bluff and BS. Cheers. Has gone 226,000kms. Don't tell me thats long mileage!

The whining could be your back axle. Drive a little way with the windows open & listen. I run a diesel so the 180 engine is out of my area. Its best to take it to MB for a diagnostic ( They are the only ones with the right computer ) Get the results & then take it to an indie.
