Hello All. I was wondering if anyone else has had occasion to experience rust on there C Class. I have a late 95 silver example which has blisters bubbling up around the rear wing mounted aerial (factory fitted) and bootlid around the handle and lock. I accept it is a 9 year old car but the vehicle it replaced, a 1989 190, didn't have a spot on it!! I have only recently purchased it as it had obviously been cared for, ie immaculate other than the rust, with a full main dealer MB service history. Having spoken to the MB dealer they say they would look at it and put a claim into DC, but are not hopeful as to a positive outcome. Has anyone else had any success in this field? :(

Got the beginnings of a similar problem on my 1997 C36 AMG, but only on the boot lid, just underneath the valance where the reg plate lights sit. A couple of months ago I took the trim and had a look.

To my sheer horror I discovered that for the length of that piece of trim there was NO top coat of paint, just primer. At one edge rust was forming, so I cleaned and dried everything and drenched it in Waxoyl. Refitted it and wiped off the excess.

I keep checking it but to be honest i'm not that optimistic, I was thinking of putting a claim in but as long as it stays put I won't bother.

Hello TPS i have a c220d 1993 and is immaculate but for two stone chips on the boot if you try and clean them up you find the metal is so thick that this car will last forever if you get the stonechips done professionally.
Having said this car will last forever you will still need to look after it you have a class act there compare the thickness of metal to a year 2000 car it`s almost double .

so clean it up and enjoy the best production car in the world(i expect to be shot down here) you have a square headlight the round headlight model is rubbish cheers eds.....

Rust on C Class Body Panels

My C 230 Kompressor saloon (W Reg) has rust on the LH RR door upper glass frame, spreading outwards from the glass channel. It was repaired once in warranty but is now spreading like wildfire. Waiting (3 months) for response from M-B about replacing the door. Also paint chips on the bonnet have developed into rust spots which did surprise me. I believed that the electrocoat would have prevented this. Could it be that the body was rusty before it was painted at the factory?

Maybe M-B are losing their grip on quality and durability?

I bought Mike Moseley's C230K without knowing of the rust problem. Ten months after purchasing it I have had a second repair done under warranty and all is well again.

I met Mike in Jan/Feb 05 and he filled me in on the history of my car. He gave me all the documention he had accumulated with the car which greatly helped me pursue a claim with M-B.

I have responded extensively on the subject of corrosion in this Forum but mostly in other threads, particularly those pertaining to the E-class. The rust issue predominently affects the E-class but the other classes are not excluded from the problem.

REGARDS Phil
