Hi

I have a C200 Sport P reg auto, all my mates told me that it had a sport/economy button.

After 2 years of ownership these are my findings.

In economy the car drives a bit well grandfartherish, no kickdown apart from the button at the end of the peddle as you would expect in Econ to save petrol, but to drive the car all of the time in Econ its just feels lifeless.

But flick the switch to S and the car drives well normal and as the car should be, so after looking in my owners manual I discover that S does not mean Sport it means Standard.

So there you have it there is no SPORT button on my car.

OK Rant Over, whats your thoughts??????

some are marked S/E for sport/economy, some standard/economy and some S/W for standard/Winter. They all basically do the same thing.
S is normal, the other backs off the kick down and starts in 2nd.

The E/W setting is quite useful for slow traffic as it will creep faster (being locked in 2nd rather than 1st)

Anyway - moral of the story is - dont listen to your mates!
Ask us instead!

Is there a discernable difference in fuel consumption between 'S' and 'W'?
I've posted a quibble over the horrendous thirst my C200 Sport displays, which at the moment is in 'W'.
Can I ask WelshWilly what does your C200 return economy wise?
Have you ever experienced significant reduction in consumption?

Thanks people, I did'nt know there was a W on some cars, I will show off now and tell those scum bag mates. HeHe

IanMc
last year I used to drive about 370 miles a week, mostly motorway driving and it was costing about £45 p/w. It was always kept in S position because there were lots of roundabouts on the main roads to work.
Thats the only stats I really have,

hope this helps.

it gives a softer granpa take off in C second gear start the sort where when the lights go green yours is the only car to get through before the lights go back to Amber.

On the other end, on my SL its easier to potter around town in W to stop the rear tyres from skiding.

As far as I know "s" has never meant sport, only standard.

My previous W202 had W/S, the current W203 has C/S. The C and W modes seem very similar, both starting in 2nd. I've found economy better in S as the car in more responsive to changing up when needed and as it pulls out of junctions in the right gear doesn't need so much throttle.

I think originally it was E/S for economy/standard but everyone called it 'sport', then they went to W/S for winter/summer but everyone called it 'sport', so then they gave up and called it C/S for comfort/sport (which probably gets called comfort/standard!:))

Ian, Assuming your calculations are correct, there is nothing you could have done in terms of settings or even driving style to explain your mpg figures! Its a fault, plain and simple so it's either burning it or dropping it. Either way, an urgent inspection is called for.
