Hi Craig, i have a w203 2002 with leather which i find very comfortable. Depending on age/mileage of car, maybe the seat base has compressed and needs replacing. I had to have my driver's side replaced at 120k as it had sunk a bit and was a tad uncomfortable. Hope you get it sorted.

What year is you car?

I have leather Sports seats an have to say they are the most comfortable I have experienced! I found the ideal driving position very quickly. True they are quite firm but I don't suffer any discomfort no matter how long I drive.

I think it has been discussed here before and generally the opinion was the Sports seats were prefered. But of course comfort is a very personal thing..

You can buy the leather seats from people like Mercman and dronsfield and sometimes on Ebay

I am surprised you find the W203 seats uncomfortable , we both find them (leather)as comfortable as any car we have owned. We did have a W 202 about 96 (I think) and those seats were hard , painfully hard, we called the car Rommel`s revenge. did not keep it long. In all honesty I would suggest that back pain is not the hardness of the seat but bad seat positioning, seat back rake, squab angle, lumber support adjustment. I would suggest an appraisal of the ergonomics to try for a more relaxed position. Hard seats give rise to the clinical condition numbbumbbus, which is definitely not back ache.

Hi. I have a 2004 W203 with full leather sports seats and they are very good. I cant believe the same in cloth would be that much different. I can only therefore assume either your drivers seat needs replacing - or you are used to a car with a different feel. Uncomfortable is never a word I would use - even after 200-300 miles of non stop driving. And bearing in mind I am no lightweight. The last time I looked, it was the wrond side of 17 stone.
Just as a BTB.............I presume you own an automatic?
Its not uncommon for drivers with manual cars to become "less comfortable" after long bouts of town driving due to continual gear changing.
Its just a thought.

Hi Craig, Televison has given the answer I would have posted (he's quick!!). As for cost I have no idea, sorry.

What I would say though is, try and have a drive in a Sport equiped car first. Could be an expensive mistake!

I drove a cloth equiped hire car (E class, nearly new) not long ago and the seats were definately softer than mine and much less supportive. I had back ache after an hours driving :(

W202 seats hard - initially

Hi

I found the seats in my W202 very hard after being used to the bucket seats in my Celica. But over time I have grown used to their hard surface and nowadays I don't give them a second thought. Incorrect seat adjustment can exacerbate the problem though.
