Hello - the light came on today at 17k miles indicating the brake pads required replacing. The local stealership servicing dept is closed.

The car is under warranty and 3 questions please:

1 - how much will mb charge for the 53 plate car for the front pads C180?

2 - if i was to go to another fitter, non MB fitter, would this affect the warranty on the car?

2 - how much approx would a non mb dealer charge?

Thank you

As far as I am aware, as long as MB parts are used it will still be under warranty. Not sure as to whether OE standard parts is included. Textar and ATE make them, and they cost between 30 and 35 quid +VAT.

Thanks Nicky

This is what MB said - but thinking back, it first showed about 2 weeks ago.

Today it is coming on every time - MB has said i should be ok for 500 miles and about a quater of pad left - so i feel that i should be ok for 1000 mls but car is booked for wed/thu, need to confirm tomorrow.

Thanks

I did another 2,500 miles after the pad warning light came on before i changed them....it was easy for me to keep monitoring how much pad lining was left on my ML by looking through the widely spaced spokes of the wheels.....it is un-economical to replace them soon after the light first glows.
Mind you, the OE pads for an ML are £95 !!....all the more reason to squeeze every last bit of use out of them.

You might consider changing them yourself, it is not a difficult job.

Why not buy the pads from eurocarparts and fit them yourself,it is only a half hour job......Textar pads come in at £26 95 part no=101 22 019...........

Yes 190,The bottom two you mention, are the two (textar and ate) I was referring to above at 30 to 35 quid +vat, and for the 203. It would seem the ones for the 202 may be a bit cheaper, but not much good for MSGs 203.

I think pads are around £150 depneding upon whether you get genuine parts or not. Im not sure if it will affect ure warranty if you go to a non merc dealer, i did with my c270 and it cost about 3 times less than merc. im suprised your pads are already warn down though, they usually last at least 30k. Perhaps the sender has come on early, but dont worry, there is usally plenty left on them when the light comes on. You may even get the pads done under warranty if you make a fuss about it cos they havnt lasted very long at all.

Thank you all!

Had the car just over 5 months - been with the dealer for about 4/5 weeks. The family also took a holiday of two and a half weeks - so realy i've had the car for about 3 and half months. i brake gently as on my previous cars they used to last on average 45k mlies.
i contacted the local stealership - 150 for front pads - 110 for rear, all inc of vat, etc.

They said i had about 50 miles - i reckon around 2000 the way i drive.

the light first appeared once about a month ago - since i've had the car - i'd done around 2700 miles - about 800mls on the motorway for two trips down south.

I will try and get the dealer to fit for nowt or share the costs. The discs to the fron have a 2mm lip - may need replacing?

Thanks for the help :)

Hi

Update: The light did not appear all day Thursday, so we phoned MB - they saidit should remian on until triped and come on every time we touch the brakes. This does not happen and made sense to us as the metal in the pads touching the dic should light up the warning. The mb guy said that it was known that some cars could have the sensor cable trapeed.

Friday we drove the car several times and again several times toady and no light - will have checked out under warrant

:(

Sounds like the 2mm lip on the disc has cut through the sensor wire causing the light to come on in the first place and not the actual sensor in the pads....... the lip has probably cut completely through the wire and that is why the light doesnt now come on.

Hi, Yes, reference my earlier post near the beginning of this thread..... the warning light on my ML was also coming on each time i applied the brakes but after a while it stopped coming on.... the reason being because i also had a 'lip' on my discs and the wire had been cut through as described in my last post.
Regards
