Is it just me or does anyone else find their C-class windscreen is like a magnet for attracting stones!!!

I bought my car at 9 months old in June 05.

In the time I've owned it (that's 3.5 years) I've had to change the windscreen twice as it's been hit by a stone at full force and cracked instantly beyond repair. And just yesterday it got hit by a stone again!

Everytime it's been while driving on a dual carriageway.

At least this time it's just a chip repair and I have Autoglass coming out to sort it.

Just wondered if anyone else has had similar experience or I've just been extremely unlucky!!

Before I owned the C-class I think I only ever had 1 windscreen replaced in the 17 years I've been driving.

Could this not be just the cold spell that we have had, and all of the grit on the road

I'd agree with that, the roads are breaking up more and getting swept less & less. Result, damaged paint & screens.

Couple that with the way highways re-surface the roads ie pour bitumen on the road, cover it with granite chippings and allow the motorist to roll it in for you!!! My biggest motoring gripe!!!:mad:
A disgracefull practice given what the Government take off the motorist in tax.

My experience is the same as you, so you are not alone. I have replaced the screen and had 2 chips repaired in 3 years. It has been suggested that driving too close to the vehicle in front is perhaps not advisable. Not too sure about this though.

I did find that all the chips and the source of the cracked screen were all in the same location on the screen, about 5 inches from the base. I guess the low sweeping bonnet does nothing to help.

I'm sure I've commented that mine, which I got nearly 4 yrs ago after 20 odd years of company car driving, seems to take hits on almost every trip. I've got a chunk out of the middle of the screen, which happened within a few days of getting the car - that was repaired, but is very visible. It's also got several other noticeable chips, but they're mainly in the dotted areas around the screen sensor.

What puzzles me is that a couple of the hits have been when there's been no other cars around!
