Over the years, I have owned two C Class 220 CDI Saloons Auto Diesels, but now feel that I would like to buy a three or four year old coupe.
Is there a particular model or year that you would recommend? I favour diesel. What are the advantage/disadvantages of a C or CLK? Petrol or diesel? Would be most grateful for your advice, thank you. Tony of Kent

W209/2004/320 Petrol
I have owned a CLK 320 petrol from new since Jan-04. Excellent experience and worth every penny.:D Mileage has been 28 mpg over 50,000 miles according to the on board computer.

Things to watch out for are the potential flaw in the radiator circa 2003 cars I think Valeco is the name of the radiator manufacture in question. MOST based systems make ipod integration alot easier than D2B. MOST was introduced in spring/summer 2004 so I just missed it.

merc dealership maintenance is expensive but i have had no reliability issue and good service. great help/knowledge on this site.

if more that 40k on the car ensure the transmission oil has been changed. All the normal about regular service history etc apply. Should be great choice at decent prices now. depreciation on my motor is about £30-£34k in five years and 66k miles

Thank you for your reply. Probably 2004 or 2005 dependent on price

If you are doing a lowish mileage I would go for petrol.
320 is great - advise as avsdoyle says, also remember they need new plugs 50 - 60 k (check this).
2004 on you avoid the rust issues and also the valeo rad (again check this).
My Aug 04 manufactured one has the upgraded dash.

I dont think the c coupe is a nice looking car, very bland and no different to dozens of other hatchbacks but the clk with nice alloys and trim is a looker.

Dreaming of a CL55k - one day maybe....
or say "sod it" and get the 500 - at that age there's nothing in the price, but what a car!
