Wife thinks I am crazy....

BUT, I am thinking of changing car and are considering either the new C320 Cdi Sport (which I drove at the weekend - see other thread) or an ML320 Cdi Sport.

Of course, these are two different cars and worlds apart, but while the C class is sporty and quick around the bends (a way I would never drive anyway), the ML is more quiet, very comfortable and quick enough for anyone (even without the optional warranty covered Brabus box).

The new C is tipped to retain approx 46-48% after 3 years, the ML 55% and there is not a big difference in price once you add up all the options.

What do you boys and girls think?

Thanks for any input.

Depends really on what you want to do/lifestyle etc.

Having had 4x4's for a loooong time - I missed the solidness and being able to see what's happening ahead, more.

Since having my ML, I have also noticed that fewer drivers 'pull out' in front of you - they tend to let you pass, rather than you having to stamp on your brakes.

Well reading your signature it says you already have a C320 CDi Avantgarde SE Estate in the best colour with a top specification! Also you mention it was delivered 7/3/06!!

If I was you I would hold out for another year or so, your current car will still be inside 3 years old and under warranty.

Don't rush out to buy the new C-class just because it has a new shape.

Whether you go for a C or an ML depends on your lifestyle and whether you really need a big 4x4.

If you hold out a bit longer, you will also have the option of the New C-class estate if you do need that extra interior loadspace.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

You are right. I am sold on the ML, having always been against 4x4 (why do we need them etc...). That was until I drove one.

I do not have to change quite yet and where thinking of waiting until say late this year before putting an order in. That way, delivery would be not before April/May time. Just perfect for the nice weather.

As for "do I need it".... the answer is a big No. But I want one!

But we will see....

You won't regret it - I promise.!

Just a tip - BLACK and privacy windows are THE ONLY combination - everything else looks like a hairdressers choice (no offence to hairdressers, but you know what I mean..)

Enjoy.......................

Agree. That is the ONLY way to go. A few options are also essential I think, like Command, CD Changer, Bi-Xenon, heated seats to name a few.

Actually, I think the ML now looks really butch!

Last option would possibly be Brabus with another 48 Bhp fully warranted by MB.

I'm currently sat in a MB dealers waiting for my ML to have reverse parking sensors retro-fitted (can't see a ****** thing at night :( when I'm parking - especially if it's peeing down) which is VERY dangerous if a little kiddie is about.

So another option to be considered - unless of course, they are now fitted as standard.

No chance! MB charges over £600 for them!

One option I think is really unnecessary is "Keyless Go". Over £800 for that!!

I can assure you that it is true.

The total bill came to £252.63p (£215 + £37.63p VAT) - I've just paid it..!!

Works a treat - money well spent.

What I meant was that from factory, Parctronic is over £600. For "Normal" sensors, I have no idea. But sounds about right for what you said. Certainly should not cost more.

This is what I really don't like about MB. They charge a lot for any extras. Like a different alloy wheel, same size etc. Should be free I think if it is the same size.

I don't know what the difference is between Parctronic and 'normal' sensors. The ones I've just had fitted, give a gentle 'beep' when reverse is engaged, and then only start 'beeping' when approx 4/5feet away from an object - the 'beeps' becoming faster, until a continuous 'beep' when about a foot away - I know, because I just had a quick practice park up against an innocent Fiesta ;) They worked..!

Parctronic - you have a display in the middle of dashboard that lights up the closer you get as well as sound when really close. Works well.

My fathers S class has three different displays I believe, one in the middle and two more at either side. Looks like a x-mas tree when lit up!

Thanks for the explanation, I understand now.

As you can tell from my previous post - the system I have just had fitted, is a 'normal' sensor one.

Hello

I say the ML especially if you have the estate

also agree black looks great clean....BUT keeping it clean is a nightmare. I've had black cars and they drive me mad with a layer of dust on them.

Silver is great, looks clean even when isn't..

As for Park sence I missed in when I got my ML, but £30 later it was sorted, my me

Hi,
The factory fit Parctronic is sensors its fitted in my c43 three displays as 'newmb' says one in middle of dash, one to the right of driver adjacent to A pillar, and one in the extra brake light facing forward so it can be seen in the rear view mirror.
I have multiple sensors fitted in the bumpers front and rear.

Exactly. Both my C and wife's A has a display in the ceiling seen in the rear view mirror when reverse is engaged. Works great.

Sorry, no silver. Too many on the road already plus company policy....all our cars (and trucks) are/have to be black.

But yes, you are right. Had a Volvo 850 once in "Silver Sand" which was a nice darkish silver and didn't show up any dust nor scratches.
