I have a Merc C200 CDI 53 Reg. and recently it has developed a problem that the hand brake indicator does not get released properly. Hand brake appear to be released from the drum but the signal does not go away and starts to beep. I have to try a couple of times unnecessarily apply hand brake and release again before I move. Does anyone know where the sensor for hand brake is for this model and how can I remedy this problem ?. It is really annoying when I have to start and move away in a hurry.

Sounds as if you need to adjust cable under the rear seat.

Befre you adjust you should ckeck on how many click s it uses when applied 6 are OK, if more then as John kerr the adjuster is under the seat, the brake linkages may just need freeing off and lubricating

You adjust with the nut on the end of the equalizer bracket

Thanks for the relies - to all.

How do access it under the rear seat ?. Do I have to remove the seat or it is accessible from the bottom ?

I answered your PM the diagrams that I have sent are for replacing the cables, ignore that and just use them for the location of the parts.

The access panel is under the rear seat

Hi Malcolm, any chance you could send over the diagrams, as I have the same issue on my MB.

Cheers,
Bob

linkage most likely will need lubed, get some one to operate the park brake whilst you lube the linkage up under the seat, there are 4 caps at the front of the rear seat, remove them, then remove the 4 13mm nuts to remove the seat, there is a panel with a 13mm nut on it and 2 8mm bolts, remove these and the panel to get at the linkage.
