can somebody please tell me where the alarm is located on a c180 1997 as my hazard lights keep flashing, my key doesn't unlock the locking system and doesn't turn in the ignition.
I assume you are referring to the siren which is bolted to the bulkhead at the rear of the engine compartment,
I note your C180 is a 1997 model which is the year that DAS (Driver Authentication System) was introduced. If your C180 is June 97, or later, the car won't start without using the electronic key.
Disconnecting the siren because it is annoying won't help you start the car which usually has to be taken to the dealer who can determine what has failed and correct it.
It sounds to me your problem is likely to be with the electronic key. If it is not damaged, have you fitted a new battery? Remember, you may have to resynchronize the key with the alarm system in order that they will work together.
thanks for your response. my car was first registered in nov 97 and i did change the battery for the car and the fob. How do i resynchronise the key with the alarm system? the car only has one key and the problems started when i tried unlocking the car and it wasn't unlocking. I had to remove the rubber seal of the driver's door to unlock the car and then the alarm started ringing and the key wasn't turning in the ignition (car wouldn't start). I also wasn't able to open the car door manually with the key. A couple of days before all this I had to keep pressing the unlock button on my key fob until the car opened, but it did open and the car started. But since then the alarm still is ringing and the hazards are flashing so I had to remove the earth cable from the battery. What to do? Thanks in advance.
Disconnect battery for 10 sec, press the remote key up to 100 times to desynchronize the alarm.
To synchronize, point key at a receiver, press button momentarily, point window in remote at the receiver in mirror, press button twice, turn the key to ign 2 within the next 30 seconds
