Hi, can anyone help? I have a C180 R reg classic estate and the boot lock was only occassionaly locking with the central locking. The car was in the garage for some warranty work(only had the car since Nov) and they identified that the vacuum was faulty but couldn't replace it under the warranty, so being a handy gal, I changed the vacuum pump and everything was fine again. Recently I pressed the 'door unlock button' inside the car to let a friend in and since then the boot lock only occassionaly locks with the central locking. Is this relative or coincidence? I've had the boot panel off to check the vacuum pump and it seems to be working ok. Has anyone any ideas? My husband ordered a replacement vacuum pump but we've not had time to pick it up - I'm not convinced it's the pump anyway.

A leak in the system can damage the pump.

when the vacuum system is good the pump only runs for 3 sec,, if it runs for 18 sec then there is a leak, and its turning off with the timer, and will give the pump a short life

possible vacuum pump leak

Thanks Malcolm. Do you have any knowledge on repairing this type of problem? Is it just a case of following the system or is there a hi-tech way in which to identify where the leak is? I read your response re the 'anp having gone down' on another reply for a E class 203. Is this a possibility on the C180 estate? as my central locking switch on the dash works fine.
