Hi.
I have just acquired a 1995 C180 automatic; 92,000 miles and generally very good condition.
The other day I was on the motorway doing about 85 -90 and there was suddenly a large cloud of blue smoke behind the driver's side of the rear of the car. (it's a UK right hand drive with the exhaust on the passenger or left hand side. I'm assuming that the airflow turbulence at the rear of the car caused the smoke to appear to be issuing from the opposite side to the exhaust.)
This continued for what seemed ages but was likely just a minute or so and then just stopped.
My thoughts are that there might be a blockage in the crankcase breather filter, causing some oil to force its way past the piston rings - this phenomenon ceasing when the blow off relieved the pressure in the crankcase.
Can anyone please point me at the location of the breather filter, so I can check?
I had an oil and filter change about 100 miles prior to the incident.
