Help please...?
I was going down the motorway, at about 65 and the yellow engine management light came on. Thew manual says its either, exhaust, ignition or injection system.
I have noticed that the engine is not as smooth and fuel economy is down from an average of 40-42 to approx 35-37, also engine is slightly chuggy, but not much...any ideas..?

Many thanks in advance

Yes the air mass sensor is the first port of call that is if it has one.

we do need to know if it is a 202018, or 202078 there is a chassis number at the bottom of the windscreen or chassis plate under the bonnet, no rush till tommorow

I missed that as well, what a life, any way it should be the MAF sensor. get one from Bosch, much cheaper than MB

Air Mass filter, it is a sensor that monitors the air flow into the engine and adjust the fuel to suit, when dirty or out of spec the MAF normally puts the engine in what we call a limp home mode.

It is the cure for 95% of this type of fault

i have a 2002 W203 Coupe
it might be worth mentioning my recent going ons.

I had rough running poor idle etc. If your idle is rough open the bonnet, and see if your engine is "vibrating/shaking" mine was, and it was diagnosed as a faulty MAF, there was nothing wrong with it and at a cost of £370 fitted! my problem turned out to be a £2.70 breather pipe had a tear in it, the tear was enough to cause the MAF to show up as faulty, the problem with alot of mechanics is they see a sensor is giving invalid data and just swap it, instead of thinking, well what could be causing that?!
Also, at certain point when idle i could quite clearly here the car sounded like it was sucking air in when i lifted the bonnet, which was a give away.
