Hi,
my brother's 1995 C180 has gone bananas. Indicators only work sometimes and now the windshield wipers can come on at any time randomly. The problems started initially only in wet weather but now it's happening in all weather conditions. I also noticed that there's a lot of condensation in the car also. Is there an ECU in the cabin somewhere? I'm thinking that there may be water in or around it causing the problem. Any ideas?

Thanks very much.

Number one check the fuse box under the bonnet the get water in them, look carefully for any sign of water, there are modified lids now

The fuses get corroded and you need to change the fuses ideally, but for the moment you can turn them in ther holders to remake contact.

if the above doesnt help then you could also check your OVP relay, it might be part of the cause

cheers

Maybe the drain system below the wind screen is blocked up with leaves etc, this will help it to get damp inside the cabin.
I have seen similar wierd faults with 124 and 201 cars suffering from damp in the electrical system, an ill fitting fuse box lid being the cause in both cases.
Im not at all sure about the C class but on the 124/201 models there is a combination relay which controls all the timed accesories, wipers/rear screen heater/wiper delay & screen wash.
The relay is electronic and has very sensitive inputs which make it easy to fool with a bit of damp in the wiring and then things just wont behave as they should.
The fault could be any where that the various parts are fitted but I would start with the fuse box, look for damp and dirty corroded conections.

Your alternator could be on its way out, this happened to mine.
