Hello everyone. I am a new member who is looking for some help with an alarm system problem in a c180 elegance (p reg). The red light on the rear view mirror constantly flashes, the green one never comes on at all. The alarm system does not function. could this be caused by a valet switch on the alarm needing to be reset?

I have a friend who had a similar model and had to replace the mirror as it has a brain in it to do with the alarm (and immobiliser i think) inside the mirror. His car would not start though.
Someone else will know the exact cure for your problem as I have read of others with similar problems with the mirror. Try doing a search on the forum.

Welcome Gordon

Not sure this will help in your case Gordon but on my c250 I had problems when I first picked it up a couple of months ago.
I have a lock under the dash drivers side (for the alarm) it takes one of those what I call one armed bandit keys. Round with a protrusion sticking out. The actual lock itself was loose and turned the whole barrel mechanism, as a temporary measure i wedged it so it held firm.(I will get round to fixing this more permanently eventually.) I am suspecting the movement of the whole lock has caused a loose wire.
After leaving the alarm turned off for a few drives locking and unlocking my car, I turned the alarm back on and all was well. Plus I also checked all fuses and was surprised quite a few of them were not actually seated right in the fuse holders. Oh and sometimes if I forget to dissengage the alarm with the keyfob for the alarm and just use the keyfob for the central locking I have to turn off the alarm with the key to get the car to start.

The more technically able members of this forum are excellent and you will find there help invaluable. Hopefully one of them will put you on the right track.
