My 1996 C-180 Elegance is described as "189 emerald (green) black metallic" -
Personally I feel "sapphire (blue) metallic black" to be more like the colour I see when I look at it (I MEANT to buy flat Black-Black... meh... anyway!)
I have a couple of scratches I want to fix... a funny sort of scuffing that runs right across the front AND rear bumper (constant bumping a garage wall maybe), and a couple of VERY strange 'dings' (how DO you chip the middle of the c pillar?) I WAS thinking of buying a new front bumper- or 2nd hand from a breakers- so my questions are:
1. Where can I get a touchup kit from, & how do I double check it will match?
2. I like the chrome bits on the bumpers, if I bought the AMG (?) ones with the fog lights (I would get front & rear to match!), do they have the chrome bits/can they have the chrome bits?
Thanks for help!
p/s would you believe I bought this because I had a C-class in that frankly strange bright Turquoise as a company car in 2001, and loved several bits about it... none of which seem to be on this one! (boot opening, doors auto locking, and the nice infared key!)

You will never get a good match as it is impossible to get the same paints, the aerosol top coat will not match.

Better to take the bumpers off and give them to a body shop

The dent in C pillar is often caused be someone closing the door onto the seat belt buckle and common.

You can get the AMG bumper,on Ebay sometimes, but the fitting irons are expensive along with the fog lamp fittings

Hi dingopuppy

My Mercedes' paintwork is officially described as a green-black metallic but in fact looks like a dark blue metallic. The DVLA has registered it as black.

I have been lucky and found an excellent match of touchup paints from Halfords that are OK for stone chips but perhaps not my first choice for scratches or for larger blemishes. Of course, Mercedes do their own tubes of touchup paint but once again only intended for stone chips.

For larger areas I would consult a professional bodyshop. They can match paint across panels with great accuracy. I would not even consider aerosol spray paints.

REGARDS

Hi,
If you can find/get AMG over bumpers 2nd hand, and you want to keep the chrome you need the early body kit off of a C36, and not off of the later C43, both my cars are green/black metallic, and I have to disagree, and that my car is predominately green if you look at this thread I,m sure you will agree. Post 83 in the first link, and post 125 in the second link.

Regarding spraying the bumper, my C43 bumper is scraped and has a crack in it so i,m going to take the bumper to the body shop and feel confident that they,ll be able to match it, regarding Halfords spray cans (they mix your colour code up and fill an aerosol for you) I have used these in this colour and have sprayed my mirror covers and trims under the headlights with it and then a coat or two of lacquer with an air compressor and gun and you honestly can,t see any difference to the rest of the car.

I agree Andy that all of the small items can be done with an aerosol, the trims under the headlights come off so easy, and doing those really cleans up the front end.

I was so pleased with the finish/colour match on the mirror covers that i was considering to use the same method on the whole bumper, but as it is cracked, i,ll be sending it to the body shop.
