Normally this problem appear when accelerating, especially when under powered (i.e. change to 4th gear at 30-35 mph) or climbing up hill.

My mechanic suggested that I use higher octane fuel which I did but with very little improvement.

Any reason why this happened (clicking) and any suggestions on how to solve this problem.

Cheers

When your engine starts to pink as you describe, the engine control module should alter the ignition timing automatically to compensate for this condition.
The signal to cause this change comes from the knock sensor bolted to your engine block and it is possible that this sensor has failed or lost it's connection to the Ecm.
Knock sensor is shown on this link;http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.as...GM=716.624&CT=M&cat=68Z&SID=15&SGR=075&SGN=04.
