Hi folks, trying to do a favour for a friend ....C180 Elegance 95 ... sticking barrel in the ignition lock.Key won't turn and then eventually does. According to our friendly H#ynes manual you use some sort of slotted tube,(a bit like a deep socket) or you fabricate a ring shaped bit of welding rod to release the barrel , with the key in pos 1.
Doesn't seem to be possible on this car! I have removed the lock trim / bezel from the dash , leaving a black collar , which seems to turn slightly but certainly not the 90 degrees required. Does this collar have to come off first or is this the locking ring discribed. Have tried gripping collar with molegrips while also pushing down on it ...still nothing. I am beginning to consider an airchisel ! Help please.

Smart + others :)
Key need to be in pos 1, then i use a tool bit like a deep socket but with a rubber lining in it to turn the black cover.

Thanks

Thank you both, Television, I have been searching the site cos I'm certain someone will have done this but I just can't find the detail I need. Star, I have key in pos 1 but I wasn't sure if the black collar was the locking ring or the cover over the locking ring.!
Cheers.
