I have a 1996 C 180. When I purchased it the led in the mirror did not work, however the one in the drivers door did. Last week I used the remote control and the red light did not come on and the indicators flash. I was unable to start the car. Eventually I managed to get it going but now I am unable to start the car at all. The central locking will work and the green led lights up, but there is no red LED or bleeping and flashing. I have changed the batteries and there is no difference. I am told that if I replace the bulbs or the led the problem will be solved. does anyone have any ideas. HELP.....

immoboliser

hi;
I have had the same problem with my E200 classic. the worst was I cannot start the vehicle for 3 days. finally got to call RAC. When the car was sent to MB, I was told that the receiver (at the mirror and door) was damaged. Got to changed. Nothing to do with battery. The cost was about 500 GBP.

Good Luck

C180 immobiliser problem.

Hi, I also have a 96 C180. My problem started with me being unable to unlock the doors.I got a new key (quite expensive) and for a short while this resolved the problem but then the fault came back.Some times the door would unlock but when I opened it the alarm went off.Having spoken to the garage that sold the car new(Ibought it second hand) they told me how to disonnect the immobilizer and deactivate the alarm.The door central unlocking would work OK and I could start the car as normal.
I had an idea that it was related to the blown Red LED in the rear view mirror and this was confirmed by searching for info on this site.
The way suggested to resolve this cheaply was to replace the LED within the rear view mirror.The mirror assembly can be removed by firmly grasping it and pulling it down sharply,as it is held in position by two sprung loaded pins. Unfortunately I found that the circuit board on which the LED is mounted could not be removed as it is clamped in position when the two parts of the mirror are moulded into one piece,I ended up buying a new mirror from the Merc dealer for around £130. Once fitted (quite easy) and the alarm reconnected,everything was back to normal.
