Hi Guys,

I am posting this question for a friend who thinks she may have been ripped off by a garage. She has an M reg C180 and it started to run quite badly. She took it to a local garage and they said it was the MAF meter. They replaced it and have given her a bill for £275. £100 is for labour and £175 for the mater which is (allegedly) a genuine Bosch part.

I have fitted MAF meters (on other cars) in the past and it has taken around 10 minutes so I think the £100 labour charge is a tad over the top to say the least. Please can someone tell me if this is a complete rip off as I think it is as I don't have any Mercedes experience.

Cheers Guys.

Sharpey.

It was only a few weeks back when I was talking to a lady who was given a bill for £375 for the same thing and same car.

The MAF from Bosch is ½ the MB price

£100 for diagnosis of the maf including fitting is not all that bad.

A £50 maf will be a load of cr4p for a petrol car. £50 for a diesel one is fine.

Get a price from a dealer for a air mass (maf) for that car and prepare to be shocked.

+1 although diagnosis and fitting is less but full clear down of faults would be done.

i paid £275 for the part and £100 for fitting :)

and yes some of them can be swapped really easily, but some (like mine) are a real pain to change, and if you took it to mercedes, they take the supercharger off and all sorts, though its possible to do it without. I think on some of the older ones you just undid a couple of clips and off it came, but i know some are a pig of a job :/

A c180 one will be simple, but as BlackC55 says, £100 for the labour and £175 for the part is not unreasonable given that they have to drive it in the workshop and spend some time on the diagnostic. I'm pretty sure I paid over £200 for a proper Merc MAF on my E240, plus the diagnostic and fitting.
