C180 - Manual or Auto? Panorama Roof?

I have owned neither an automatic nor a merc before, could you please give me advice on whether I should get a manual or auto C180? I would also like the panorama evolution AMG model, the dealer tells me the glass roof rattles. does anyone have any experience of this and would it be a problem if I will only have the car for 3 yers and it will be under warranty?

The glass roof is terrible.

The rattles can be fixed.

Go for an auto too.

hi i have owned a 02 c200k auto-step/pan since 2005 the car is great to drive suspension is a bit hard, i had the cam shaft adjuster changed under warranty as it was very noisy also the roof started rattling and squeaking so they changed that as well i think the cost was something like £4000 but since then all is quiet

Yes a MB needs to be an auto, and do avoid the glass roof, unless it is quiet

Go for the auto, it's a dream to drive - don't think I'll ever do manual again. No more constant pumping of the clutch in traffic jams.

Remember if you do go for the manual you don't have a traditional handbrake - it is a pedal operated one. That is a bit of a pig to get used too with a manual for hill starts etc, test drive a manual and see for yourself.

A Merc really has to be an auto when it comes to resale time.

When we came to buy a Merc last year we went through this same selection process - What I found was that the combination of manual and foot operated handbrake was a bit tricky - The auto is so much easier and it makes for a lovely relaxed cruiser, even in heavy traffic!

On the panoramic roof, we did intially want one (well my wife did) however in the end I found a really nice example without the roof and so we got that instead (I know a couple of people who have had some probs. with the roof so I wasn't really keen on one).

We have the C180K SE Sport Coupe with the Evo Pack, basically it has all the bits that the Evo Panor Sport Coupe model has on it except the roof. We've been really happy with it (my wife said she's keeping it for the next 5 yrs!!). I'd also strongly recommend the Artico "Man Made" Leather interior, as it really looks great and so far is looking good as new.
