Please let me know what is a reasonable oil consumption for C180 (110k KM).
I use the ARAL seni synthetic 10-40 and I change it every 7500 KM.

And also what are the most common reason for a high oil consumption.

Thank you in advance.

3 Things in all on any engine.
'1 valve guides worn, engine will smoke when pulling away at traffic lights, then be reasonably ok.

2 bores or rings worn, engine will smoke when pulling the whole time.

3 boken ring (piston) can cause crankcase compression forcing oil out of the crankcase breathing system.

I use also aral 10w-40 on my c180 manual (120k km on the clock) and engine oil consumption is about 0,20 ltrs per 1000 km. No leaks, no smoke and Mb dealer said that is normal.
I read somewhere that MB will consider excesive oil consumption to be about 1 liter every 1000 or 1500 km!! which is ridiculous to me.

I have the same consumption but I also believe that 1lt in 1000Km is not normal at all....

I think that MB state consumption can be upto 1 litre per 1000 miles in the handbook, I do agree that I would be worried at that level of usage, but then Im not using my car in the desert or climbing mountains. I would put consumption on our cars at nearer 1litre per 10000 miles.

The mileage suggests you are getting to the point where the crankcase breather system under the inlet manifold could be getting blocked.
Check the air intake pipework for oil, particularly in the vicinity of the MAF sensor.
Do a compression test to check for a worn engine as this may cause high crankcase pressure, when this has been eliminated then it either a leak somewhere or the breather is blocked.

There is a thread "oil in air intake" which gives a lot more detail.

So I am guessing having to put a litre in my c250 after 3 months is nothing to worry about?

is that every 3 months? or just the first time you have added any?

the SLK55 said up to 0.8ltr per 1000kms! it used 1 ltr in 6200miles, then developed an oil leak. previous mercs to that have said 1ltr-1000kms as above. both 200K (r170 &r171) never used any in around 15k miles or ownership each.

Mercedes engines seem to use more oil than other makes I've had experience with. It takes a bit getting used to.
