C180 W203 engine management light. can i reset?

HELP..!!! Hi, any help please..?

I have replaced my MAF sensor as was told that it was broken.Bad advice poss. The engine light is still on, and no difference to engine. i.e. coughs and splutters a little in the morning, about 6-10 mpg less and less performance.

My question is MB told me that they have to reset the engine management light, which will also get the ecu out of limp home mode..? can i do this myself..? many thanks (great forum!!)

Sounds exactly the same as mine, MAF was replaced also, i made them give me the money back...
Check the breather pipe, its common on our cars, and 1st thing to check, you might be able to hear it if you lift the bonnet, walk to the RHS as you look at it (Passenger side) lean over wing, (mind your head on the strut!)and see if you can hear a louder than usual sound, sounds like sucking in air... +also you might see the engine shaking, mine was shaking that much that i could feel it a little just sitting in the car!

the actual pipe is not too bad to get to, you have to remove the air filter box, and you can then see it, its a little difficult to clamp the new one back onto the engine block though as its quite far down...

There is some special spray you can get, i cannot remember its name..anyone? and basicaly you spray it near the pipe and if its torn the spray gets into the system and im not sure what it is exactly but because a tear was in the pipe the "magic spray stuff" gets into it makes your car rev higher for a lil bit, so that was how mine was diagnosed..

MIGHT be worth saying also, that it wont always do it, hence the mis-diagnosis, it depends on how the pipe strains, sometimes it be ok but then it would start again suddenly hehe

Thanks..!

Thanks will try it... this is my first Merc, and i must admit, not a good experience up to now..!
The massive amount of warning lights is starting to annoy me a little, light sensor, boot not shut, then goes off after a few days. etc etc..!

Got a maf for £49 but was considering getting an obd cable and some software to remap car myself, but of interest really as interests me.
regards

Is it the pipe that goes from the injection box (looks bit like a carb) at the end of the air intake pipe), and goes somewhere to the front of the engine behind the airbox..?

also can anyone advise regarding MB dealer turning off warning light, and reseting ecu..? is it a MB con..? can i get it done at a diagnostic place..? can i buy the software and lead and do it myself..?
many thanks

i never had to have the light done, it sorted itself as soon as the problem was rectified the light went away, it wasnt reset

As for the pipe, i dont have a picture at the moment as im at work and i wont have until this evening unfortunatly... :( but it connects to the engine block not entirely sure where the other end goes, cant remember, but its only about 15cm long and is a specially shaped piece of pipe, and the two ends are different sizes, so its something that you have to get from MB, they had a few in stock when mine went. the cost of pipe is about £2.70 if i remember rightly, instead of the £270 MAF for my car hgeheh.
