I have a 96 c180 and recently had problems with the front speakers.  I removed the interior door pannel and found that in the cavity of the door, on the window guides and the back of the speaker it seemed very wet.  I notice their is a drain hole on the weld of the bottom of the door but Im just checking that it is normal for water to seap past the window rubbers and get into the cavity of the door.  The existance of a drain hole suggests it is?  I will just have to locate some magic waterproof speakers if this is the case

Should there not be a waterproof liner behind the door trim to stop dampness?

Update - I just bought some Genuine c-class Front Speakers and MB mountings and Dashboards tweeters for £15 on an online auction site - looks like with the proper mountings you can leave the waterproof liner in place, but it anyone's put aftermarket speakers on they have probably cut open the liner, and mounted the speakers directly on the doorframe like mine. Some polythene and some Twinstick adhesive should cover the holes again...

All pre face lift W202 aka C class have crap plastic weather proof...go to your dealer and get the ones for the facelift cars

also you can get some speaker adaptors so you can use after market speakers without drilling/ripping stuff. pics below... also you can upgrade to these pioneer bueties
