Hi all,

I'm new here, and have a quick question.

I have recently bought a C Class coupe, c180k 2003. It's been fine for the last few weeks, but has today developed a fault.

Coming back from the gym last night i had the wipers on and everything was normal.

Get into the car this morning, put the wipers on and nouthing. They dont work on any of the settings. However, when you press the button on the end of the stalk to wash/wipe they work fine - but still dont work on either the intermittend / on modes.

I left the wiper switch on for the 20 mile journey this morning and suddenly they started working again. Again, got back into the car after work and they wont work.

I think it might be a relay problem???

Does anyone have any ideas? / Does anyone know which relay does the wipers?

Thanks for the help guys!:D:confused::D

I think the relay is in the front sam which is in the fuse box next to the brake resoivoir. the fuse/relay card should be in the interior fuse pannel behind the cover next to the light switch.

It could well be a stalk issue with your car. Fairly common.

Thanks for the reply!

I have found the fuse box under the bonnett, and have located the fuse for the wipers. The fuse is fine.

However, i'm not sure what relay it is...any ideas?

The stalk may be the solution....however, the lights (headlights) indicators, and wash/wipe functions still work....whould they still work if the wipers stop?

hey all....an update.

I have been playing with the wiper stalk...it seems like a loose connecion. It's still not working when you turn the knob, but when you turn the wipers on, and then fiddle with the stalk they turn on and work....untill you need to indicate when they stop again.

Do you think this is a new stalk? Any idea how much the dealers charge for these with fitting?

As Ellsy said the switches do give problems,,not too expensive but it is a steering wheel off job to do it

Some times they wash out with electronic switch cleaner

Go and have a word with your MB dealer and tell them that there is an update and see what they say
