This minute I've just noticed a grinding noise when I've depressed the brake on my auto C200 (2000). It was as if some grit had gotten into the pads (or they'd fallen out). Subsequently the ABS light and the ESR light above it had come on. What on earth do you think had happened?? Also, the car has Parktronic - this now seems to be illuminated all the time now - is this linked?? Please give me some guidance so I can be prewarned when I take the car to the garage!! Many Thanks.

My ABS light has been on and off a few times of late. My man diagnosed a faulty rear sensor and booked it in to fix it next week. It just means that the ABS dosen't work but the brakes work.
He suggested that the new systems keep the car in whatever gear it failed in and then only let you drive in first gear till it's fixed.
I dread to think what happens to my Audi Quattro if the ESP goes funny!

Thanks for the replies - I'm sure it's not the brake pads as they were only changed a few months ago - they still brake fine, although minus the ABS.
